Can You Understand English?

There is a lot of talk about making English the official language of the USA. That would stop the need to spend so much money printing out things like drivers license, tax, voter registration and other official forms in so many languages. If people come here, they will simply have to learn English. However, is it really that simple? English is anything but a virgin language. It has roots in the tongues of many nations and one word can mean many things. If you travel around our great nation, you will discover some extreme examples of that fact.

Several years ago, I visited Pennsylvania Dutch Country with my family. Most people have read about the Amish people, but it’s something you have to see for yourself to believe. They first came to North America to escape religious and political persecution in Holland and the Netherlands. Most live in Pennsylvania, some in Ohio and Indiana and a few have established closed communities in Canada.

The religious life of the Amish tends to dominate all they do. While they appreciate the freedom that America offers them, they want none of what they consider our vices. Most of the traditional Amish people refuse the use of electricity and modern conveniences like telephones, cars and machine Автомобильные CD магнитолы цены driven farm equipment. The majority are Farmers who use horse drawn carts for their transportation and horses for plowing, pulling wagons and other heavy work.

The most amazing sight you can see in Pennsylvania Dutch Country is an Amish barn raising. The entire community gets together when someone needs a new barn and builds the bulk of it in just one day! The men construct Автомобильные телевизоры цены the barn while the women cook and provide refreshment. I guess that when it comes to the Amish, it takes a village to raise a barn!

Because they consider waging war a sin, the Amish are generally classified as Conscientious Objectors with Selective Service. They have their own schools and churches and teach that being self-sufficient is vital. They do use banks, save a great deal of the money they earn from farming for the future, give ten percent of their worth to the church and refuse to participate in the Social Security program. The Bible says to make no image of any thing on the earth or in heaven. You will not see any religious statues in their churches. They do not use cameras of any type and the Amish dislike having tourists take their picture.

Sometimes it is hard for tourists to resist the temptation to photograph these unusual people because they look so quaint. The Amish dress in what might be described as very plain clothing. The men wear dark pants with suspenders, light shirts, a wide brimmed hat and a dress coat for special affairs or cold weather. Most have beards and stop shaving when they are engaged or marry. The women wear dresses, no pants, and most will never cut or trim their hair. None of the Amish wears jeans, anything with a design on it or buttons. They use hooks and eyes on their clothes because of a tradition that says their persecutors in Holland wore large buttons on their coats as a sign of pride. real estate search engine rankings Most wear large dark colored shoes and none wear sneakers or dressy footwear.

The Amish speak their own language that has been described by dialectologists as an old form of Dutch mixed with German and some Old English. It is their attempt to speak modern English that really gets your attention! If I were outside our house and needed my wife to give me a diaper for the baby I might say, “Honey, throw a diaper out the window. I need one for the baby.” However, the Amish would say, “Father, please throw the baby out of the window a diaper.” Yikes! Maybe that’s where Michael Jackson got the idea of dangling his kid out of the window. I guess we’re all lucky that’s all he decided to dangle out the window?

This whole Amish style of speaking made me think about the English language and some of the odd ways in which we describe things in different parts of the USA. Like all Americans born here, I guess I have been short with those who come to America from somewhere else and have trouble learning our language. I mean, how many times should I have to say ‘BIG MAC’ at McDonalds to actually get one? It’s frustrating, but imagine how people who come from other places feel when confronted

I Am Not An Island or What Does God Have to Do With Animals?

“May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.” 2 Corinthians 13:14, NIV

To all of you who helped me with a flamer this week, thank you! Not on this blog but on my natural pet care blog. This guy was angry that I had posted a Christian article (one of my Sunday Reflections articles) on a pet blog. A blog I pay for and share natural pet care on. He thought it was his right to not have Christianity shoved down his throat (lol) on a pet blog or website or any place he shops online or off or anywhere in the world outside of church. He also asked what does God have to do with pets, but not so nicely, LOL! Uh, God CREATED them! Interesting, because he had the choice to walk away and NOT read. I didn’t force him to read the article, he chose to read it. Christians, if we live out our lives as Christians, that becomes a part of all we are, do and say. There is no separation from our personal lives into our business lives into our social lives or whatever. We are Christians and I got a taste of Christians banding together in unity as a team this week. In fact, I’ll name the team at the end of this article. Oh and this article is going on the pet blog soon too!

From last Friday through this one, I’ve gotten one attack after another. A good friend told me that the devil ramps up his efforts the closer we get to the goal. What is really sad, is all the people who attacked me were being used of satan and probably or most likely without their knowledge. Not too sure about the flamer, because he mentioned

Is Online Business Optional?

Today I would like to discuss with you Фототехника цены this simple question - is it optional for you to be involved in some sort of online business or is it a modern life necessity?

Let’s see… Are you a multi-millionaire? Are you a business executive or well paid professional - doctor, lawyer, programmer, etc? Are you a small business owner or you’re a stay-at-home mom?

Did I miss any group in between? Probably I did. Anyway, it does not really matter who you currently are, what matters is who you’re going to be in the future.

If you’re multi-millionaire, you most likely already have an online division implemented as part of your business model. You know that billions of people use Internet these days, millions more join each and every day to find anything they want - information, services, products, ideas, the list goes on and on to infinity - whatever you think of - you name it, and chances are pretty good that you can find it on the Net (even if you’re unable to find anything - let’s say you’re inventing something new, online resources are invaluable for the research of the works previously done in your area of interest).

So as a multi-millionaire you definitely wouldn’t want to miss such a huge market or your competitors will eat you Встраиваемые варочные поверхности купить alive.

If you’re a well-paid professional or executive real estate listing working for a big corporation, online business could be a great way to legally reduce your taxes, as a business owner Объективы цены you could write-off a lot of expenses. You might argue that you can do this with any other business you own, you don’t necessarily have to have the online business for this purpose. Driving Tips - What the Highway Code Doesn’t Say

When you hear that 18% of the serious accidents which occurred over the holiday period were caused by drivers with more than the legal alcohol limit in their blood, do you ever say to yourself “Ah, but that means that 82% of drivers involved in serious accidents were SOBER”? I do and I’m not surprised because a large percentage of drivers just don’t concentrate on what they’re doing when they’re behind the wheel real estate listings spokane wa of a car.

If you don’t want to become just another accident statistic, follow these tips which you may not find in the Highway Code.

The Five Most Common Mistakes Salespeople Make

The Five Most Common Mistakes Salespeople Make

Over the decades that I’ve been involved in sales, I’ve worked with tens of thousands of salespeople. Certain negative tendencies — mistakes that salespeople make — keep surfacing. Here are my top five. See to what degree you (or your sales force) may be guilty of them.

Mistake Number One: Over concern with strategy instead of tactics

Gather Прочая аудиотехника цены a group of salespeople together around a coffee maker and listen to the conversation. After the obligatory complaints about all types of things, the conversation inevitably drifts to questions of strategy. How do I accomplish this in that account? How do I get this account to this?

In my seminars, I often hold a “clinic” where salespeople write down any sales-related question and submit it to the group for discussion. These questions are almost always related to strategic issues. In one form or another, they ask the same question: How do I achieve this effect in this account?

While this thoughtfulness is encouraging, it reveals an erroneous mindset. The belief behind these questions is this: “If I can only determine the right sequence of actions of my part, I’ll be able to sell this account, or achieve this goal.”

This, unfortunately, is rarely the case. These sales people, based on this erroneous belief, are looking for a solution in the wrong place. Almost always, the answer to the question is not a more clever strategy, but better execution of the basic tactics.

It is like the foot ball team whose players don’t tackle well, miss their blocks, throw erratic passes, and fumble frequently. The solution is not a more clever game plan. The solution is better execution of the basic tactics. Learn to do the basics effectively, and the strategy will generally take care of itself.

The real problem with this over concern for strategy is that it seduces the salesperson’s energy, substituting the pursuit of a better strategy for the real solution - better execution of the basics.

When I’m asked these “strategy” questions, I find myself asking the salesperson to verify the fundamentals. Have you identified the key decision makers and influencers in the account? Have you created trusting personal relationships with each of them? Have you understood the customer’s situation at a deep level? Have your presented your solution in a way that gives them reason to do business with you? Have you effectively matched your proposal to the intricacies of the customer’s needs?

This line of inquiry almost always reveals a flaw in tactical execution. It’s not the strategy that the problem, it’s the tactics. Focus on doing the basics first, and the need for a clever strategy diminishes.

Mistake Number Two: Lack of thoughtfulness

The typical field salesperson has, as a necessary and integral part of his/her personality, an inclination toward action. We like to be busy: driving here and there, talking on our cell phones, putting deals together, solving customer’s problems — all
